Countdown timers add urgency to a page. Create as many as you need, each with its own behaviour and style, then place them with a theme block. Find them under Grow order value → Countdown timers.

Timer types

Reset behaviour

Applies to the Countdown type only:
  • Browser session, resets when the tab closes.
  • Daily, resets at midnight.
  • Every page load.
Session reset avoids the credibility problem of showing the same ten minutes on every page. Shipping cutoff timers are the most honest kind of urgency, because they map to a real dispatch deadline.

Styles

  • Banner, an inline bar.
  • Pill, a rounded chip.
  • Digit segments, boxed digit groups.
  • Minimal, text only.
You can also set an Icon (None, Timer, Fire, Lightning, Gift, Truck or Tag), alignment, font size, border radius, full-width layout, uppercase text, and, for the Digit segments style, whether to show the hrs / min / sec unit labels.

Colours and urgency

Turn on Inherit theme colors and the timer follows your store’s palette. Turn it off to set the text and background colours yourself. Below the Urgency threshold (in minutes) the timer switches to its urgency text and background colours, and can pulse if you turn on Pulse animation when urgent.

Setting one up

1

Create the timer

Go to Grow order value → Countdown timers and click Add timer.
2

Name it

The Timer name is internal, for finding it again in the list.
3

Choose the behaviour

Pick the timer type and fill in the fields it asks for: hours and minutes plus reset behaviour for a countdown, cutoff hour and UTC offset for a shipping cutoff, or an end date and time for a fixed date.
4

Write the content

Timer label, which defaults to “Limited time deal ends in”, and an Expired message, which defaults to “This offer has ended”. Hide block when expired removes the block entirely once time is up.
5

Style it

Pick a style and icon, set alignment, font size and radius, then set the colours and the urgency threshold.
6

Save and place it

Click Add timer to theme to drop the CartSella — Countdown block into a section, then paste the Timer ID. Save your changes here first.
The live preview on the page ticks in real time, so you can see the urgency switch before you publish.

Placing it

Add the CartSella — Countdown block to any section and paste the timer ID. Leaving the ID blank uses the first timer. The block only controls which timer to show and its top and bottom margins. Everything else comes from the app, which means one timer can appear on several pages and stay consistent. See Storefront blocks.

Tips

  • Match the timer to a real deadline. Shoppers notice a countdown that resets when they reload.
  • A fixed end date is the right choice for a sale. A countdown in minutes suits a cart-level nudge.
  • Do not stack a timer with an announcement bar and a floating button on the same page.
