On any Online Store 2.0 theme, yes. The app embed and the app blocks are both 2.0 features, so a vintage theme cannot run CartSella at all. Every free Shopify theme released since 2021, Dawn included, qualifies. See Compatibility.
What do I have to do before anything shows up?
Turn on the CartSella — App embed on your published theme, then add the block for whatever you built. The fastest route to both is Settings → Theme blocks inside CartSella. See Storefront blocks.
Do I need a block for everything?
No. The offers hub, the floating bubble and the boost popup all ride on the app embed. Checkout upsells, thank you upsells and the checkout cart editor are placed in the Shopify checkout editor, not the theme editor. Post-purchase upsells are switched on in your Shopify checkout settings.
Does it work on mobile?
Yes, every surface is responsive. Preview on a narrow window before publishing, since most shoppers are on a phone.
What languages does it support?
CartSella’s own storefront wording ships in English, Portuguese, Spanish, French, German and Italian, and follows the shopper’s language. Text you write yourself is translated inside CartSella, per language. See Translations.
Can a shopper qualify for more than one offer at once?
Yes. Priority in Advanced options decides which one wins when they compete. The range is 1 to 10, 1 wins, and the default is 5. Two offers both left at 5 are a coin toss.
Do CartSella discounts stack with Shopify discount codes?
That is the Combine with setting in the Advanced section. It controls whether CartSella discounts sit alongside Shopify order, product and shipping discounts, codes included. It is store wide. Shopify allows one combination setting per app, so changing it on one offer changes it for every CartSella offer you run.
Buy 2 get 1 free: what does a shopper with 6 items get?
Three gifts. The main condition multiplies by complete sets, so 2 units give 1 gift, 4 give 2, 6 give 3, and 5 still give 2.A minimum cart total never multiplies. It is a gate: below the amount there is no gift, above it the shopper gets exactly the number the main condition produced, however much they spend.
Why does a logged-out shopper see an offer meant for tagged customers?
Because before checkout there is no customer to check the tag against, and hiding the offer from everyone who has not signed in would make it invisible to most of your traffic. So on the storefront, customer tag and order history rules do not hide anything. At checkout the rule is enforced properly, against the real customer. A shopper who does not qualify does not get the discount, and a gift they do not qualify for is taken back out. Nothing is mispriced. If a reward must be guaranteed to everyone who sees it, do not gate it on a customer rule.
My offer switched itself off. Why?
Three reasons, each with a banner in the editor saying which: the gift went out of stock, the offer spent its total usage limit, or a discount alert fired. The out of stock one comes back by itself once stock returns. The other two need you to fix the cause and re-activate. See Pausing and uninstalling.
Can I schedule an offer for the future?
Yes. Every offer and upsell has a start date and an end date, and the end date is optional.
What happens when an offer reaches its end date?
It stops applying, disappears from the storefront, and stops counting toward your plan’s active item cap. Nothing is deleted.
Can I duplicate an offer or upsell?
Yes, from the status card in the editor or the row action on the list page. The copy is created as a draft.
Can a shopper delete the free gift from their cart?
No. Gift with purchase lines are locked, and the gift is removed automatically when the cart stops qualifying. Bundle and pack reward lines can be removed, which also removes the bundle discount from the paid lines, because the shopper has undone the bundle.
Do offers respect inventory?
Yes. CartSella checks availability before adding a gift or a bundle item, and switches off an offer whose gift has run out.
How do usage limits work?
A total limit switches the offer off once it is spent, so it stops for everyone. A per customer limit stops the offer applying for that one shopper while it stays live for everyone else, and it only counts shoppers with an account, so a guest checkout is never limited by one. Both live in Advanced options. See Advanced offer options.
Products upsell (product page), cart upsell, checkout upsell, post-purchase upsell, thank you upsell and boost popup. See Upsells.
Why is the checkout upsell locked?
Checkout upsells need Shopify Plus. That is a Shopify platform requirement, not a CartSella plan limit, so upgrading your CartSella plan does not unlock it.
Can I use automatic recommendations?
Yes, if Shopify’s free Search & Discovery app is installed. Choose the Auto method and pick complementary or related products. Set fallback products too, for when it returns nothing.
Can I show different upsells on different products?
Yes. Create several and give each a Product pages eligibility rule, or a “specific product in the cart” trigger.
How do I offer a subscription instead of a one-off?
Turn on Offer subscribe and save in Advanced options. It adds a subscribe toggle to any recommended product that has a Shopify selling plan. Checkout upsells have a dedicated subscription upgrade style instead. The saving comes from your subscription app’s selling plan.
Why does my products upsell have no trigger section?
Because it renders wherever you put the block. To limit it, add a Product pages eligibility rule.
On the Customize page, at Settings → Storefront customization. Styling is global per surface, and per offer type for product page offers. There is no per offer colour picker.
Why does the Customize button in the editor take me somewhere else?
Because styling is global. The button deep-links to the Customize page, already on the surface that styles that item, with your item in the preview.
Can I make CartSella match my theme automatically?
Yes. Most surfaces have a Use theme colors option, on by default, and the Brand surface has a button that pulls the palette from your published theme.
Can I use my own fonts?
Font family follows your theme. Font sizes are set in the block settings and in the Customize controls.
I saved a colour change and nothing happened.
Check you were editing the surface for that offer type, since product page styling is per type. Then reload the storefront in a private window to rule out a cached page.
Why are the numbers lower than my Shopify reports?
CartSella only reports on orders it was attributed to, meaning an offer, upsell or campaign link was involved. Orders with no CartSella involvement are not counted at all.
How far back does the data go?
To the day you installed CartSella. There is no backfill from before then.
Can I export the data?
Yes. Set your filters and click Export CSV.
Is Discount given subtracted from Revenue?
No. Revenue is already what customers paid, after discounts. Discount given is a separate cost figure, and Discount ROI divides one by the other.
None. Every plan includes every offer type, every upsell type, scheduling, country rules and campaign links. Plans differ only in monthly order allowance and how many items can be active at once. See Plans and billing.
What counts toward my monthly order limit?
Orders CartSella was attributed to. Orders that never touched a CartSella offer, upsell or campaign link do not count.
Everything disappeared at once and the admin only shows Pricing. What happened?
Your store is blocked, either because you crossed your monthly order limit or because a Shopify charge is unpaid. Crossing the limit blocks immediately, with no grace period: the blocks stop rendering and the CartSella discounts are removed.Upgrading restores everything within a few minutes, and so does the start of a new billing window. Nothing is deleted and you do not re-save anything.
What counts as an active offer?
Only something live right now. Drafts, paused, archived, automatically paused and date-expired items do not count. Delivery rules have their own separate limit.
Is there a free trial?
Yes, 7 days on any paid plan, if your store has never had a CartSella subscription. The Free plan itself is free indefinitely.
Is there annual billing?
Yes, on Starter, Growth, Scale and Business. It saves 20% against monthly.
When do plan changes take effect?
Upgrades apply immediately, downgrades at the start of your next billing cycle. You can make one billing change per cycle.
How do I cancel?
Uninstall CartSella from Settings → Apps and sales channels in your Shopify admin, which ends the charge. See Pausing and uninstalling for what happens to your discounts and your data.
Can I run CartSella alongside another discount app?
Technically yes, but two apps creating automatic discounts compete for the same slot and Shopify picks the winner. It is the most common cause of totals nobody expects. Keep automatic discounts to one app, and judge totals at checkout rather than in the cart.
Does it work with subscription apps?
Yes, with any app built on Shopify selling plans. Offers can be limited to subscriptions or to one-time purchases, and upsells can offer a subscribe and save toggle where the product has a selling plan.
Does it work with multiple currencies and markets?
Yes. Target markets and countries with eligibility rules. Thresholds are set in your store currency and convert at your Shopify market rates, so the number a foreign shopper sees may differ from the one you typed. Analytics reports money in your dominant selling currency.
Does it work on a headless storefront or in POS?
No to both. CartSella is delivered through your Online Store theme. See Compatibility.
